The Center for Cancer Genome Dynamics (CCGD) is an interdisciplinary research center at the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG). It consolidates and integrates basic and translational oncology research activities at the UMG and the Göttingen Campus focusing on research aspects centered around cancer genome dynamics. 

Genome Dynamics refers to dynamic cellular changes impacting on cancer genomes, which are key to drive cancer initiation, cancer progression, metastasis, and the development of cancer treatment resistance. Understanding the underlying dynamic processes of cancer genome dynamics will help researchers to uncover the mechanisms of tumor evolution and develop more precise diagnostic tools and targeted therapies.

The scientific focus of the CCGD is on the mechanistic investigation of genomic dynamics processes in the onset, progression, and treatment of oncological diseases, with the goal of translating the knowledge gained into new therapies and therapeutic strategies. The following genome dynamics processes are investigated within the collaborative framework of the CCGD: 

1) processes of cell cycle regulation including DNA replication and mitosis
2) cellular responses to DNA damage and its repair
3) mechanisms of structural and numerical and genomic instability
4) regulation of chromatin conformation and structure
5) gene transcription and its epigenetic regulation
6) impact of altered cancer cell metabolism on transcription, epigenetics and genome stability
7) cancer biology of mRNAs and non-coding RNAs

The CCGD bundles complementary scientific, methodological, and clinical expertise of members of various institutions on the Göttingen Campus, including the University Medical Center, the Georg-August-University Göttingen, and the Göttingen Max-Planck-Institutes.
