The PhD Programme in Molecular Medicine is designed to permit candidates to conduct independent, self-responsible scientific research and to prepare them for high-level professional roles in the field. Therefore, the programme offers a research-focused, structured curriculum that combines rigorous scientific training with academic development.

Students primarily engage in an original research project aligned with their thesis topic. The PhD thesis must be completed and submitted within three years of the project’s start date. In well‐founded cases,  two extensions (max. 6 months each) are possible upon application. Every PhD student is supported by a Thesis Advisory Board, which provides guidance throughout the research process. Students are required to hold at least three formal meetings with their advisory board.

In addition to their research, students must complete 20 Credits (1 Credit = 30 hours workload). A list of eligible courses is available on GGNB website , and new course offerings are announced monthly in the GAUSS Newsletter.

MolMed phD students may apply once for a Travel Grant to receive financial support for attending a scientific conference where they will present their thesis research. This opportunity supports professional development and promotes the sharing of research results.
