Project leader: Prof. Dr. Hajo Holst

Research field

  • Interdisciplinary research on pandemic long-term impacts on living and working conditions

What is the aim?

The COFONI Working World Monitor examines the long-term consequences of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on the world of work. What are the long-term implications of the pandemic? Which groups are particularly affected by each of the effects? And where do cumulative impediments exist? The research design is based on (a) a mixed-methods approach that combines explorative qualitative interviews with a representative employee survey, (b) a thematically encompassing and interdisciplinary perspective on pandemic-related long-term consequences on the world of work (incl. long/post COVID) and (c) an approach widely used in international research to classify occupations. In addition, the project establishes the COFONI Working World Dialogue. This dialogue organizes the transfer of knowledge generated by the COFONI Working World Monitor and other COFONI projects, identifies good practices in dealing with long/post COVID and other pandemic-related long-term consequences, and tests innovative event formats and communication tools.

The COFONI Working World Monitor builds on previous research by the cooperation partners. Between 2020 and 2022, the Working World Monitor “Working in the Corona Crisis” examined the immediate consequences of the pandemic on the world of work. The proposed project further develops the survey instruments, focusing on pandemic-related long-term consequences on the world of work (incl. long/post COVID), as well as integrates the existing data (almost 30,000 survey participations and 130 qualitative interviews from four survey rounds) into the COFONI technology platform.
