Dr. med. student receives DGK Otto-Hess-Doctoral Scholarship

Our Dr. med. student Dustin Schierholz, MD RP1 was selected from 40 applicants and will receive as one of 20 students a one-year scholarship by the Otto-Hess-Doctoral Scholarship as part of the doctoral funding program of the German Cardiac Society (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Kardiologie – Herz- und Kreislaufforschung e.V. (DGK)).

Dustin received the DGK scholarship for his doctoral project “Hyperdynamic Ca2+ signaling in RyR2 and PLN mutations” which he started in 2025 with a one-year GRK 2824 scholarship.

Following the scholarship, a final poster presentation will take place at the DGK Herztage or the DGK Annual Meeting, with a nomination for the Otto Hess Doctoral Award.

The aim of scholarship programs for medical doctoral candidates is to integrate structured scientific training into medical studies. This often paves the way for a career as a “Clinician Scientist”.

We wish Dustin continued success with his doctoral project and hopefully a career as a clinician scientist.
